What is ISO 14420 about?
ISO 14420 is an international standard that discusses carbonaceous products for the production of aluminium baked anodes and shaped carbon products.
ISO 14420 specifies a method to determine the coefficient of linear thermal expansion of carbonaceous or graphite materials (solid materials) for the production of aluminium between 20 °C and 300 °C.
ISO 14420 applies to baked anodes and shaped carbon products to determine the coefficient of their linear thermal expansion.
Who is ISO 14420 for?
ISO 14420 on linear thermal expansion for baked anodes and shaped carbon products is applicable in:
- Manufacturing of carbon baked anodes
- Companies dealing with carbon anodes
Why should you use ISO 14420?
The coefficient of linear thermal expansion is a material property that is indicated to the extent to which a material expands upon heating.
ISO 14420 specifies the apparatus and assists in determining the coefficient of linear thermal expansion like dilatometer, furnace, temperature-measuring device, an instrument for measuring lengths, and calibration samples, which helps in thermal expansion.
ISO 14420 provides you with the procedure for calibration and measurement of determining the coefficient of linear thermal expansion to build efficient baked anodes and shaped carbon products.
By adopting ISO 14420 the user can enhance the efficiency and reliability of their carbon products by correctly determining the linear thermal expansion.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 14420:2020 supersedes BS ISO 14420:2005, which is withdrawn. The main changes with respect to the previous edition are:
- 5.4 has been revised to remove micrometre calliper
- The formulae in Clause 9 have been revised
- Revision of Clause 10, previously Clause 9 according to ISO/IEC Directives Part 2
