What is ISO 14490-3 about?
ISO 14490 is an International Standard on optics and photonics that aims to deliver telescopic insights that offer optimal precision and performance.
ISO 14490-3 is the third part of a multi-part series of documents which specifies test equipment and test procedures for determination of some characteristics of telescopic sights.
ISO 14490-3 specifies equipment and procedures for the characteristics like parallax, axial parallax, eye relief range, line of sight shift due to zooming or due to focusing and reticle tracking of telescopic systems.
Who is ISO 14490-3 for?
ISO 14490-3 on test methods for telescopic sights is applicable to:
- Manufacturers of telescopic systems
- Manufacturers of telescopic sights
- Manufacturers of optical instruments
- Arms and defence equipment manufacturers
- Regulatory bodies
Why should you use ISO 14490-3 ?
Telescopic sights, often called “scopes,” are small telescopes mounted on top of the firearm that help magnify the target to take accurate shots, even at longer ranges.
Test equipment and test procedures mentioned in ISO 14490-3 helps you in testing your telescopic systems and improving performance of telescopic systems.
ISO 14490-3 helps determine and evaluate the specific characteristics for your telescopic systems and thus manufacture and supply telescopic sights with best industry guidance.
Overall, ISO 14490-3 help the user in building a high-quality product that offer precision, and accuracy for optimal performance and avoid product failure and damages.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 14490-3:2021 supersedes BS ISO 14490-3:2016, which is withdrawn. The main change is:
- Addition of critical eye relief in the test method according to ISO 14135 series and ISO 141323
