What is ISO 14548 about?
ISO 14548 specifies nominal sizes for photographic glass plates along with their cutting dimensions and their tolerances.
ISO 14548 specifies nominal substrate thicknesses along with their tolerances and also specifies a cross-reference for sheet films that are being used in newly manufactured holders for glass plate cameras.
Who is ISO 14548 for?
ISO 14548 on dimensions of glass plates is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of photographic devices
- Manufacturers of glass plates
- Manufacturers of glass plate camera holders
- Astronomical observatories
- Holography industry
Why should you use ISO 14548 ?
Interest in antique photographic processes has led to increasing popularity of both wet plate and dry plate photography. As most of the available plate holders are often a century or more in age, they will often be unserviceable or can be expected to fall into disrepair during modern-day use. Hence, a side effect of this resurgent popularity of 19th century photographic processes is an increasing demand for accessories such as newly manufactured plate holders. As more manufacturers begin to address this demand, they will need to make assumptions about the dimensions of glass and metal plate negatives being produced commercially for the photographic market.
To address this dilemma, ISO 14548 provides you with the accurate dimensions for your holders for glass plate cameras and prevents any waste due to incorrect dimensions.
ISO 14548 helps you with a cross-reference for your sheet films and thus effectively evaluates and increases the efficiency of your sheet films.
