What is ISO 14649‑17 about?
14649‑17 is part 17th of the multi-series standard that specifies the process data for additive manufacturing. 14649‑17 describes additive manufacturing at the micro-process plan level without making a commitment to particular machines, processes, or technologies.
14649‑17 provides you guidance regarding process data for additive manufacturing.
Who is ISO 14649‑17 for?
ISO 14649‑17 on process data for additive manufacturing is useful for:
- Aerospace industry
- Transportation industry
- Medical industry
- Energy industry
Why should you use ISO 14649‑17?
The data model in ISO 14649‑17 focuses on device control and expression of requirements for the results of the additive process rather than technology-specific constructs.
ISO 14649‑17 differentiates between explicit data and derived data. Support structures, for example, depend on the shape and process and need to be derived when the process and the machine are chosen in order to achieve maximum flexibility. The working step structure is sufficiently flexible to allow support structures to be added explicitly if they are required. Assemblies can be described with different elements, with different materials, in different working steps. Additive manufacturing can be sequential or parallel and there is the possibility to define explicit parallel features.
