What is ISO 14737 about?
ISO 14737 specifies requirements for carbon and low alloy cast steel grades for general applications.
NOTE 1:Annex A guides welding.
NOTE 2:Annex B gives information on ISO grade designation and available UNS numbers which are similar to the ISO grade designation.
Who is ISO 14737 for?
ISO 14737 on carbon and low alloy cast steels is relevant to:
- Manufacturer of carbon and low alloy cast steels
- Pressure appliance manufacturer
- Structural engineer
- Automobile engineer
- Manufacturer of construction equipment
- Welders
Why should you use ISO 14737?
Carbon and low alloy steel castings have increased strength, hardenability, and resistance to wear and abrasion and are commonly used for pressure containing and structural applications.
ISO 14737 provide information on chemical composition, heat treatment, mechanical properties, test methods and analysis required to manufacture carbon and low alloy steel.
As a user of ISO 14737, you can be ensured of all the properties of carbon and low alloy steel.
Information provided by ISO 14737 helps the manufacturer to manufacture high-quality carbon and low alloy steel which has a long service-life and helps them to expand the market reach for the product and build consumer trust and confidence.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 14737:2021 supersedes BS ISO 14737:2015, which is withdrawn
This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 14737:2015), which has been technically revised.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- New Note was inserted in the Scope; previous Note 1 for Annex B was renumbered as Note 2
- “Terms and Definitions” added as new Clause 3; subsequent Clauses were renumbered
- Footnote “a” to limit Cr, Mo, Ni, V, and Cu was added to GE200, GS200, GE240, and GS240 in Table 1 on Chemical composition, mass fraction in %. This makes it consistent with EN 10293
- Correction of thickness, for g10mnmov6-3 in Table 2 on Mechanical properties at room temperature
- Correction of tempering temperature range for g25nicrmo2-2.
