What is ISO 14782 about?
ISO 14782 specifies a method for the measurement of haze, an optical property resulting from wide-angle scattering of light, in transparent and substantially colourless plastics. This method is applicable to the measurement of haze values of less than 40 per cent.
Note: The haze of abraded or matted transparent plastics can be measured, but the value obtained can be erroneously lower than the true value due to light scattering within a narrow-angle.
Who is ISO 14782 for?
ISO 14782 on the determination of haze for transparent materials is relevant to:
- Plastic and polymer manufacturers
- Polymer scientists
- Plastic/polymer testing laboratories
- Chemical engineers
Why should you use ISO 14782?
In ISO 14782, haze is determined using an integrating sphere the efficiency of which is held constant by compensation.
ISO 14782 provides a method for measuring haze, an optical feature caused by wide-angle light scattering, in transparent and virtually colourless polymers. This can help you differentiate between plastics that offer poor transparency, thereby making the right selection for your specific application needs.
The results of the test can provide indications on the choice of resin, moulding process or any surface irregularities that need to be corrected.
If you are a manufacturer of plastics and polymers, ISO 14782 can not only provide assurance of quality and clarity but also be beneficial to enhance your product development needs.
