What is ISO 14835-1-Measurement and evaluation of finger skin temperature (FST) about?
ISO 14835 is an international standard on mechanical vibration and shock that provides cold provocation tests for the assessment of peripheral vascular function. ISO 14835-1 provides the best industry guidance on measurement and evaluation of finger skin temperature in response to cold provocation to ensure prevention from hand-arm vibration syndrome. ISO 14835-1 is the first part of a multi-part series that specifies
- The methods for measuring the finger skin temperature (FST)
- The procedures for conducting the measurements (including the performance of cold provocation tests)
- How to report the measurement results.
The methods specified under ISO 14835-1 are designed to assist in the collection of basic data for a quantitative evaluation of vascular response to cold provocation and to enable specification of normative figures.
ISO 14835-1 applies to the measurement of FST in response to cold provocation for the assessment of various peripheral vascular disorders in persons exposed to hand-arm vibration and is intended to be used together with a battery of tests for diagnosing hand-arm vibration syndrome.
Who is ISO 14835-1-Measurement and evaluation of FST for?
ISO 14835-1 on measurement and evaluation of FST is useful for:
- FST measurement equipment test personnel
- FST measurement equipment manufacturers
- Occupational health and safety departments
- Risk assessment authorities
Why should you use ISO 14835-1-Measurement and evaluation of FST?
Finger skin temperature (FST) is related indirectly to finger blood flow and reflects the contribution of feed capillaries, nutritive capillaries, and arteries. Mechanical, physiologic, and pharmacologic effects at any of these levels may affect FST. Assessing FST over a sufficient observation time can identify the presence and extent of finger vasoconstriction in response to cold provocation produced by appropriate hand cooling.
ISO 14835-1 provides you with measurement procedures, safety aspects, data reporting, assessment of normative values and limits, and much more. The measurement procedures provided by ISO 14835-1 assist in measuring and evaluating FST in response to cold provocation to discover signs of pathology in the peripheral vascular system and ensure prevention from hand-arm vibration syndrome.
With obedience and compliance to ISO 14835-1, you can enhance the efficacy of the FST measurement equipment and manufacture a standardized product.
