What is ISO 1496‑3-Tank containers for liquids, gases, and pressurized dry bulk about?
ISO 1496 discusses freight containers. ISO 1496‑3 is an international standard that provides for
ISO 1496‑3 is the third part in a multi-series that specifies the basic specifications and testing requirements for ISO series 1 tank containers suitable for the carriage of gases, liquids, and solid substances (dry bulk) which can be loaded or unloaded as liquids by gravity or pressure discharge, for international exchange and conveyance by road, rail, and sea, including interchange between these forms of transport.
ISO 1496‑3 covers two types of containers pressurized tank containers (liquids and gases), pressurized and non-pressurized tank containers (dry).
Who is ISO 1496‑3- Tank containers for liquids, gases, and pressurized dry bulk for?
ISO 1496‑3 on tank containers for liquids, gases, and pressurized dry bulk is useful for:
- Freight containers manufacturers
- Freight containers designers
- Freight containers developers
- Entities involved in the installation of tanks
Why should you use ISO 1496‑3- Tank containers for liquids, gases, and pressurized dry bulk?
Series 1 freight container is a container designed to be moved from one mode of transport to another without unloading and reloading.
ISO 1496‑3 assists you by providing specifications and test requirements for series 1 freight containers used for safely transporting and storing bulk liquids and to ensure freight containers have no leaks.
By adopting the specifications, tests, design requirements specified by ISO 1496‑3 the user can confirm the mechanical strength of the tank and manufacture improved quality containers and ensure the ability of the tank container to withstand the forces arising from acceleration of the payload in lifting operations.
What is changed since the last update?
BS ISO 1496‑3:2019 supersedes ISO 1496‑3:1995, which is withdrawn. BS ISO 1496‑3:2019 has made some technical changes compared to the previous edition ISO 1496‑3:1995. These include:
- The container type codes have been revised
- The ratings and stacking forces have been revised
- The load transfer areas of the base structure have been referenced to ISO 668
- The stacking test no. 1 ratings have been revised
- The insulation thermal test has been referenced to ISO 1496‑2
