What is ISO 15500‑5 about?
ISO 15500‑5 is part five of the multi-series standard that specifies tests and requirements for the manual cylinder valve, a compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system component intended for use on the types of motor vehicles defined in ISO 3833.
ISO 15500‑5 is applicable to vehicles (mono-fuel, bi-fuel, or dual-fuel applications) using natural gas in accordance with ISO 15403‑1.
Note-
ISO 15500‑5 is not applicable to the following:
- Liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel system components located upstream of, and including, the vaporizer
- Fuel containers
- Stationary gas engines
- Container-mounting hardware
- Electronic fuel management
- Refueling receptacles
Who is ISO 15500‑5 for?
ISO 15500‑5 on manual cylinder valve is useful for:
- Compressed natural gas vehicle manufacturers
- Compressed natural gas fuel system components manufacturers
- Designers and manufacturers of manual cylinder valve
- Vehicle maintenance and repair shops
Why should you use ISO 15500‑5?
ISO 15500‑5 gives you marking instructions that will allow you to identify and trace the manual cylinder valve in the supply chain.
ISO 15500‑5 specifies a hydrostatic strength test to establish the strength of the manual cylinder valve. This test will help you make the manual cylinder valve more durable.
ISO 15500‑5 lays out guidelines for the construction and assembly of the manual cylinder valve.
ISO 15500‑5 provides tests to check the applicability, continued operation, leakage and valve stem retention. These tests will help you manufacture high-quality manual cylinder valves.
What’s changed since the last update?
ISO 15500‑5 is the third edition that cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 15500‑5:2012), which has been technically revised. ISO 15500‑5 also incorporates the Amendment ISO 15500‑5:2012/Amd.1:2016.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- Serial number or data code becomes mandatory in marking
- Update of 6.4 "continued operation"
- Added test for "valve stem retention"
