What is ISO 15500‑6 about?
ISO 15500‑6 is part six of the multi-series standard that specifies tests and requirements for the automatic valve, a compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system component intended for use on the types of motor vehicles defined in ISO 3833.
ISO 15500‑6 is applicable to vehicles (mono-fuel, bi-fuel, or dual-fuel applications) using natural gas in accordance with the ISO 15403 series.
Note-
ISO 15500‑6 is not applicable to the following:
- Liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel system components located upstream of, and including, the vaporizer
- Fuel containers
- Stationary gas engines
- Container-mounting hardware
- Electronic fuel management
- Refueling receptacles
Who is ISO 15500‑6 for?
ISO 15500‑6 on the automatic valve is useful for:
- Compressed natural gas vehicle manufacturers
- Compressed natural gas fuel system components manufacturers
- Designers and manufacturers of automatic valve
- Vehicle maintenance and repair shops
Why should you use ISO 15500‑6?
ISO 15500‑6 gives you marking instructions that will allow you to identify and trace the automatic valve in the supply chain.
ISO 15500‑6 specifies hydrostatic strength test to establish the strength of the automatic valve. This test will help you make the automatic valve more durable.
ISO 15500‑6 lays out guidelines for the construction and assembly of the automatic valve.
ISO 15500‑6 provides tests to check the applicability, continued operation, leakage, insulation resistance, minimum opening voltage and pressure impulse. These tests will help you manufacture high-quality automatic valves.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 15500‑6:2020 is the third edition that cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 15500‑6:2012), which has been technically revised. BS ISO 15500‑6:2020 also incorporates the Amendment ISO 15500‑6:2012/Amd.1:2016.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- Serial number or data code became mandatory in marking
- Update of minimum opening voltage clause
