What is ISO 15509 - Bond strength of engineering-plastic joints about?
ISO 15509 is an international standard used for adhesives that specifies the test methods which results in determining the shear and tensile behaviour of the bond.
ISO 15509 describes a test method for measuring the shear and/or tensile strength of an adhesively bonded plastic/plastic specimen of a specific design. This method allows the determination of the combined shear and tensile behaviour of the bond. These shear and tensile values are useful for design purposes.
Who is ISO 15509 - Bond strength of engineering-plastic joints for?
ISO 15509 on Adhesives is useful for:
- Manufacturers of automotive parts
- Aerospace
- Manufacturers of electronics
- Construction building
- Engineering industries
Why should you use ISO 15509 - Bond strength of engineering-plastic joints?
Adhesives are substances that can be used to hold, fasten, or bond two or more substrates together.
ISO 15509 helps in preparing adherends according to the dimensions and in adequate size that is useful in performing the tests. ISO 15509 is useful in removing the central part, or sprue, from each of the adherends and also helps in preparing the bonding surfaces of the adherends. ISO 15509 specifies the test procedures, test methods along with the apparatus that helps in measuring the shear which results in determining the bond strength of engineering-plastic joints. The shear and tensile values mentioned in ISO 15509 is useful in designing the adhesives.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 15509:2019 supersedes BS ISO 15509:2001. BS ISO 15509:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 15509:2001. These include:
- The list of normative references in Clause 2 has been updated
- The mandatory terms and definitions clause (Clause 3) has been inserted
