What is ISO 15590‑2 standard about?
ISO 15590‑2 is the second part of the multi-series ISO 15590 standard. ISO 15590‑2 specifies the technical delivery conditions for unalloyed or low-alloy steel seamless and welded pipeline fittings for use in pipeline transportation systems for the petroleum and natural gas industries as defined in ISO 13623.
ISO 15590‑2 applies to welding-end fittings such as elbows, caps, tees, single or multiple extruded headers, reducers, and transition sections made from a seamless and welded pipe of unalloyed or low-alloy steels.
ISO 15590‑2 specifies two classes of fitting one related to the material used in non-sour service and one for material to be used in a sour service environment
ISO 15590‑2 does not apply to the selection of the fitting class and to the materials for, or the attachment of, factory-welded extensions.
Note: ISO 15590‑2 is not intended to inhibit a manufacturer from the offering, or the purchaser from accepting, alternative equipment or engineering solutions for the individual application. This can be particularly applicable where there is an innovative or developing technology. Where an alternative is offered, the manufacturer should identify any variations from this document and provide details.
Who is ISO 15590‑2 standard for?
ISO 15590‑2 on fittings for pipeline transportation systems is relevant to:
- Manufacturer of pipes, flanges and pipe fittings
- Petroleum and natural gas companies
- Welders
- Fabricators
Why should you use ISO 15590‑2 standard?
ISO 15590‑2 provides information on the designation of fittings, pressure rating and design, manufacturing procedure specification, forming, welding, heat treatment, testing and inspection required for unalloyed or low-alloy steel seamless and welded pipeline fittings for use in pipeline transportation systems.
As the buyer of ISO 15590‑2, you can be ensured of durable, high-quality unalloyed or low-alloy steel seamless and welded pipeline fittings that minimize the risk of leakage and contamination. As a result, ISO 15590‑2 takes into account the safety and protection of the product end-user while also prolonging the service life of the fitting. Moreover, guidance regarding the right installation and fittings of factory bends, flanges are essential in the success of the overall pipeline transportation systems, as per the need of the applications.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 15590‑2:2021 cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 15590‑2:2003), which has been technically revised. The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- Title is changed, updated the list of applicable international standards with the latest applicable editions
- Added the possibility to execute NDE following the ISO, EN and ASTM standards
- Updated the assembly categories in only two types (sour service and non-sour service), removed references to extruded headers (they are not accessories but special products)
- Modified the references to the final preparation, now in line with MSS SP‑75 and body conical according to the ASME B16.9 criteria, paragraph relating to hydro test is also modified
- Greater clarity on the sampling criteria, reviewed the chemical analysis to align with the ISO 3183 requirements (additional notes concerning Pcm)
- Updated applicable standards relating to HIC and SSC, range of qualifications of the “design proof test” added the in Clause B.5.
