What is ISO 16014-1 – Distribution of polymers using SEC about?
ISO 16014 discusses plastics. ISO 16014-1 is the first part of the ISO 16014 multi-series and discusses general principles of determining the average molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of polymers.
ISO 16014-1 specifies a general method for determining the average molecular weight and the molecular weight distribution of polymers using size-exclusion chromatography (SEC).
Who is ISO 16014-1 – Distribution of polymers using size-exclusion chromatography for?
ISO 16014-1 on determining the average molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of polymers using size-exclusion chromatography (SEC)is useful for:
- Plastic products manufacturers
- Plastic manufacturers
- Quality control personnel
- Testing laboratories
Why should you use ISO 16014-1 – Distribution of polymers using SEC?
Size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), also known as molecular sieve chromatography, is a chromatographic method in which molecules in solution are separated by their size, and in some cases molecular weight. It is usually applied to large molecules or macromolecular complexes such as proteins and industrial polymers.
ISO 16014-1 provides you with the method of determining the average molecular weight and the molecular weight distribution of polymers using size-exclusion chromatography (SEC). ISO 16014-1 provides you guidance with reagents and apparatus required for the method. ISO 16014-1 guides you with the procedure and helps you with data acquisition and data processing. ISO 16014-1 provides you guidance on the expression of results and test reports. ISO 16014-1 helps you with the important method of characterizing polymers.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 16014-1:2019 supersedes ISO 16014-1:2012 which has been withdrawn. BS ISO 16014-1:2019 includes some technical with respect to ISO 16014-1:2012. These include:
- Publication dates of references have been removed
- The term “system peak” has been added
- Molecular mass has been changed to molecular weight according to the IUPAC rule
