What is ISO 17536‑4 - Road Vehicles about?
ISO 17536 is a series of international standards on road vehicles that discusses aerosol separator performance.
ISO 17536‑4 is the fourth part of the ISO 17536 series of documents that defines standardized and repeatable test procedures for the evaluation of blowby oil aerosol separators and filtering devices and specifies laboratory fractional separation efficiency in both open and closed crankcase ventilation systems.
NOTE: Filter life is not evaluated in ISO 17536‑4.
NOTE: Due to limited precision using current equipment, ISO 17536‑4 is not suitable for filters above the efficiency of 99 %.
Who is ISO 17536‑4 - Road Vehicles for?
ISO 17536‑4 on aerosol separator performance of road vehicles is useful for:
- Road vehicle designers and engineers
- Mechanical and electrical engineers
- Manufacturers of railway engines
- Manufacturers of oil aerosol separators and filtering devices
Why should you use ISO 17536‑4 - Road Vehicles?
Engine crankcase blowby is composed of combustion exhaust gases, which have escaped to the crankcase via piston ring seals, and lube oil aerosols generated by thermal and mechanical action within the engine to remove aerosol particles of a specified size.
ISO 17536‑4 navigates you through the measurement accuracy, test materials, and conditions for blowby oil aerosol separators and filtering devices.
ISO 17536‑4 provides the general requirements on the test procedure and test equipment on a complete aerosol separator assembly.
Apparatus qualification tests are mentioned in ISO 17536‑4, to verify quantitatively that the test rig and sampling procedures are capable of providing reliable particle size efficiency measurements.
To determine the particle collection capabilities of the filter, ISO 17536‑4 provides the fractional efficiency test.
Moreover, ISO 17536‑4 lets you design and manufacture an oil aerosol separator to obtain reliable measurements and achieve a high collection efficiency for road vehicles.
