What is ISO 17721‑1 about?
ISO 17721‑1 is the first part of the multi-series standard. ISO 17721‑1 specifies test methods for evaluating the antibacterial activity of glazed and unglazed ceramic tile surfaces with incorporated antibacterial agents.
NOTE: Secondary effects on ceramic tile surfaces due to antibacterial treatments, such as changes in chemical resistance, stain resistance or small colour differences, are not covered by ISO 17721‑1. For chemical resistance refer to ISO 10545-13, for stain resistance refer to ISO 10545-14 and for colour differences refer to ISO 10545-16.
Who is ISO 17721‑1 for?
ISO 17721‑1 on ceramic tiles surface is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of ceramic tiles
- Laboratory personnel
Why should you use ISO 17721‑1?
Anti-bacterial ceramic tiles are a range of tiles using a new and innovative technology, where a bio-compound is added to the tiles glaze during the single firing stage of manufacturing. ISO 17721‑1 indicates antibacterial activity under the specified experimental conditions.
ISO 17721‑1 provides test method conducted using bacterial strains, either Escherichia coli or Staphylococcus aureus to get the effect of an antibacterial agent on the glazed and unglazed ceramic tile surfaces so as to inhibit the growth of bacteria on the surfaces.
Overall, these test procedures help you in the manufacturing of high-quality ceramic tiles and evaluation of the antibacterial activity of ceramic tiles to get an antibacterial, antiviral and anti-pollution environment that is harmless to health.
