What is ISO 17723‑1-PPE ensembles for firefighters undertaking hazardous materials response activities about?
ISO 17723‑1 discusses PPE ensembles for firefighters undertaking hazardous materials response activities. ISO 17723‑1 is an international standard on gas-tight, vapor-protective ensembles for emergency response teams to ensure protection against fire hazards.
ISO 17723‑1 is the first part of a multi-part series that establishes minimum design and performance requirements for personal protective ensembles to be worn during hazardous materials responses involving chemical gas, vapor, liquid, and particulate hazards.
ISO 17723‑1 provides optional criteria to address protection during terrorism involving chemical and biological agents. ISO 17723‑1 also provides optional criteria to address the ability of ensembles to retain their integrity during the escape in the event of a chemical flash fire.
Note1: ISO 17723‑1 does not establish minimum criteria for protection against radiological hazards, flammable, or explosive atmospheres.
Note2: ISO 17723‑1 does not pertain to clothing providing the prominent level of heat and flame protection that is required for fighting fires.
Note 3: ISO 17723‑1 does not address respiratory protection.
Who is ISO 17723‑1-PPE ensembles for firefighters undertaking hazardous materials response activities for?
ISO 17723‑1 on PPE ensembles for firefighters undertaking hazardous materials response activities is useful for:
- PPE ensembles manufacturers
- PPE ensembles designers
- PPE ensembles test laboratories/test personnel
- Health and safety departments
- Quality assurance departments
Why should you use ISO 17723‑1-PPE ensembles for firefighters undertaking hazardous materials response activities?
PPE is specialized clothing or equipment used to prevent contact with hazardous substances. It is used as an integral part of infection control and prevention measures that protect workers from exposure to blood, body fluids, and other potentially infectious materials. ISO 17723‑1 addresses the highest form of protection for hazardous materials responses involving chemical gases, vapors, liquids, and particulates.
ISO 17723‑1 provides you with requirements such as design requirements, ensemble requirements, general requirements, suit material requirements, suit components, and assemblies requirements, requirements for protection against chemical terrorism and biological agents under non-military circumstances, labeling.
The requirements provided by ISO 17723‑1 assist you to improve the performance of PPE ensembles to ensure protection against chemical gases, vapors, liquids, and particulates.
Adopting ISO 17723‑1 enables you to improve the efficiency of PPE ensembles and assist you in producing a product of higher quality and standard.
