What is ISO 18646-3 about?
ISO 18646-3defines characteristics for the manipulation performance of service robots and describes how to specify and test them. ISO 18646-3 specifies methods of specifying and evaluating the manipulation performance of service robots, notably – grasp size, grasp strength, grasp slip resistance, opening a hinged door and opening a sliding door.
ISO 18646-3 deals with the indoor environment only. However, the depicted tests can also be applicable for robots operating in outdoor environments.
Note: ISO 18646-3 is not applicable for the verification or validation of safety requirements.
Who is ISO 18646-3 for?
ISO 18646-3 on performance criteria and test methods for service robots is applicable to:
- Designers of robots
- Companies manufacturing robotic components
- Robot research and testing labs
- Services consulting industries on robotic applications
Why should you use ISO 18646-3?
Service robots are semi or fully autonomous robots for automating commercial jobs. Service robots typically perform distant, dangerous and repetitive jobs.
ISO 18646-3 provides you guidance on characteristics for the manipulation performance of service robots and describes how to specify and test them which allows you to provide superior robots with accurate and strong grasping mechanisms.
ISO 18646-3 gives you information on different use cases such as opening hinged door, opening sliding door and accompanying test facility, procedures and results which will allow you to standardize and measure the robots
