What is ISO 19013-1– Rubber hoses and tubing about?
ISO 19013-1 is the first part of the multi-series standard that specifies the requirements for rubber tubing and hoses used in diesel fuel circuits for internal combustion engines. The diesel fuels covered include “bio-diesels” which consist of the methyl ester of rapeseed oil at levels up to 20 % by volume in conventional diesel fuels.
ISO 19013-1 can also be applied as a classification system to enable original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to detail a “line call-out” of tests for specific applications where these are not covered by the main types specified (see example in Annex E). In this case, the hose or tubing would not carry any marking showing the number of this document but can detail the OEM's identification markings as shown on their part drawings.
Who is ISO 19013-1– Rubber hoses and tubing for?
ISO 19013-1 on rubber hoses and tubing is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of rubber hoses and tubing
- Manufacturers of Automobiles
- Mechanical engineers
- Any entity responsible for testing and quality of rubber hoses and tubing
Why should you use ISO 19013-1– Rubber hoses and tubing?
A rubber hose or a rubber pipe is a tube made of natural or synthetic rubber that circulates and transports fuel for internal combustion engines.
ISO 19013-1 specifies the requirements for rubber tubing and hoses used in diesel fuel circuits for internal combustion engines.
ISO 19013-1 provides type approval that is obtained by the manufacturer proving that all the requirements of that standard are met by the method of manufacture and the design of the hose. The tests must be repeated in no less than five years, or whenever the method of manufacture or the design of the hose is changed.
Overall, ISO 19013-1 is a comprehensive guide to provide methods for manufacturing hoses and tubing that transport fuel in combustion engines, so users will gain a better understanding of the quality of tubing and will increase the safety of engines and can protect from the effects of fuel leaks.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 19013-1:2019 supersedes ISO 19013‑1:2005, which are withdrawn and includes some technical changes concerning the standards it supersedes:
- Normative references have been updated
- Clause 3 “Terms and definitions” has been introduced to conform to ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2, 2018
