What is ISO 19056‑3 - Incident light fluorescence microscopy illumination properties about?
A microscope is a laboratory instrument used to examine objects that are too small to be seen by the naked eye. ISO 19056‑3 is an International Standard that discusses microscopes.
ISO 19056‑3 is the third part of the ISO 19056 multi-series and specifies procedures for the measurement of illumination brightness, temporal stability, and uniformity for incident light fluorescence microscopy.
Note: The scope is intentionally limited to electronic imaging devices and (intermediate) image planes. The visual observation by means of eyepieces would require a different measurement procedure and hence result in ambiguities in the description of measurement procedures. Nevertheless, ISO 19056‑3 will give useful estimates for the uniformity with visual observation as in this case an eyepiece is used to observe an intermediate image plane (which is under the scope of ISO 19056‑3).
Who is ISO 19056‑3 - Incident light fluorescence microscopy illumination properties for?
ISO 19056‑3 on incident light fluorescence microscopy illumination properties is useful for:
- Microscope manufacturers
- Product design engineers / innovation teams
- Quality control personnel
- Microscope testing engineers
- Microbiology practitioners
- Biological scientists
- Jewelers and gemologists
- Forensic science technicians
Why should you use ISO 19056‑3 - Incident light fluorescence microscopy illumination properties?
Fluorescence microscopy is an imaging technique used in light microscopes that allows the excitation of fluorophores and subsequent detection of the fluorescence signal.
ISO 19056‑3 defines important quantities and methods to assess the quality of incident light fluorescence illumination for microscopes as well as methods to measure them. Details covered will enable users to compare different microscopes quantitatively with respect to their fluorescence illumination prior to a purchase decision and chose an appropriate instrument according to their application.
Data obtained by following ISO 19056‑3 methods also enables users to compare existing instruments with each other or to track performance variations over time, assuring proper performance. Additionally, ISO 19056‑3 also discusses the information to be provided to the user.
ISO 19056‑3 defines how illumination brightness, temporal stability, and uniformity are measured, and how this information is provided to the user.
Thus, ISO 19056‑3 guidelines help you achieve better visuals and illumination on your microscope.
