What is ISO 1920-6 – Testing of concrete cores about?
Concrete is used to provide strength, durability, and versatility during the construction of a structure. ISO 1920 is an international standard that discusses making and curing test specimens for testing concrete. Concrete is used to provide strength, durability, and versatility during the construction of a structure.
ISO 1920-6 is the sixth part series that specifies a method for taking cores from hardened concrete, their examination, preparation for testing and determination of compressive strength.
Note: ISO 1920-6 does not give guidance on the decision to drill cores or on the locations for drilling and does not provide procedures for interpreting the core strength results.
Who is ISO 1920-6 – Testing of concrete cores for?
ISO 1920-6 on testing of concrete is useful for:
- Civil engineers
- Manufacturer of concrete
- Suppliers and distributors of concrete
- Quality testing of concrete
Why should you use ISO 19206 – Testing of concrete cores?
The aim is to determine quality. The testing of concrete, concrete masonry, and their reinforcement is commonly used by design professionals during structural assessment and retrofit planning.
ISO 1920-6 gives you the importance of the Core tests which are generally performed to assess whether suspect concrete in a new structure complies with strength-based acceptance criteria or not.
ISO 1920-6 provides you with Core Sampling and Testing of Concrete and Factors Affecting Strength. Concrete cores are used for testing of actual properties of concrete in existing structures such as strength, permeability, chemical analysis, carbonation etc.
ISO 1920-6 allows you to efficiently manufacture high-quality concrete cores by sampling, preparing and testing for concrete testing so end customers get a superior quality product.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 1920-6:2019 supersedes ISO 1920-6:2004. BS ISO 19206:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 1920-6:2004. These include:
- Requirements of the compressive testing machine have been included and defined
- Clause 5 has been redrafted
- Accuracy requirements at the time of measuring core diameter, core length have been redefined
- Tolerances of the prepared test specimen have been redefined
- The curing of test specimens under tropical climate has been included and defined
