What is ISO 19290- Determination of tobacco specific nitrosamines in mainstream cigarette smoke about?
ISO 19290 discusses cigarettes. ISO 19290 is an international standard that provides methods for the determination of tobacco-specific nitrosamines in mainstream cigarette smoke in cigarettes.
ISO 19290 specifies a method for the quantification of four tobacco specific nitrosamines
(TSNAs) in the total particulate matter of mainstream cigarette smoke by using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Under ISO 19290 the quantified TSNAs are: N-nitrosonornicotine (NNN), N-nitrosoanatabine (NAT), N-nitrosoanabasine (NAB), and 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK).
Who is ISO 19290- Determination of tobacco specific nitrosamines in mainstream cigarette smoke for?
ISO 19290 on the determination of tobacco-specific nitrosamines in mainstream cigarette smoke is useful for:
- Cigarettes manufacturer
- Testing laboratories/test providers for mainstream cigarette smoke
Why should you use ISO 19290- Determination of tobacco specific nitrosamines in mainstream cigarette smoke?
Liquid Chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS-MS) is a powerful analytical technique that combines the separating power of liquid chromatography with the highly sensitive and selective mass analysis capability of triple quadrupole mass spectrometry.
ISO 19290 provides you with a method of quantification to effectively determine the yield of tobacco-specific nitrosamines in mainstream cigarette smoke.
By adopting ISO 19290 the user can produce reliable and consistent data on the yield of tobacco-specific nitrosamines in mainstream cigarette smoke.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 19290:2021 supersedes BS ISO 19290:2016, which is withdrawn. The main changes compared to the previous edition are:
- Update in the title and CAS number for NNK-d4 (see 6.8)
- The nomenclature of the deuterated nitrosamines in 6.1 to 6.8 has been harmonized.
