What is ISO 19426‑7 standard about?
ISO 19426‑7 is the seventh part of the ISO 19426 multi-series. ISO 19426‑7 specifies the design loads and the design procedures for the design of rope guides and rubbing ropes used for guiding conveyances and preventing collisions in vertical mine shafts for permanent operations.
ISO 19426‑7 covers personnel and material hoisting, as well as rock hoisting installations. There are no fundamental limitations placed on the size of conveyances, the hoisting speeds, shaft layout configurations, or the shaft depth.
ISO 19426‑7 can be applicable to shaft sinking operations when kibbles run on the stage ropes.
There are many reasons, based on technical, timing, and cost factors, why rope guides are selected, or not, for a particular application, following careful assessment at the feasibility stage of any project where rope guides are considered.
Note: ISO 19426‑7 does not cover matters of operational safety.
Who is ISO 19426‑7 standard for?
ISO 19426‑7 on rope guides for mine shafts is relevant for:
- The Mine Safety and Health Administration
- Mine planners and designers
- Mine operators and regulators
- Structural engineers
- Civil engineers
- Rope manufacturers
Why should you use ISO 19426‑7 standard?
The failure of rope guides and rubbing ropes used in vertical mine shafts is an extremely dangerous scenario, that presents several risks for people working on and around the mine shaft. In this regard, ISO 19426 presents a standardized system of designing ropes for guiding conveyance and preventing collisions.
ISO 19426 guides you through various parameters such as air density, rope torque, wind load on conveyances, materials, stiffness of rope guides and takes you through the design procedure and requirements. ISO 19426 is primarily intended to provide the technical information required to ensure good engineering of shafts where rope guided hoisting is the chosen solution.
As a buyer of ISO 19426‑7, you can ensure that the quality of the rope meets the required standards of safety for personnel working in vertical mine shafts, given the possibility of the loss of a means of egress. Consequently, the compliance to the requirements will facilitate improved safety protocols and operational reliability.
