What is ISO 19926-1- System performance and operation of weather radar about?
ISO 19926 discusses weather radar. ISO 19926-1 is an international standard that provides for system performance and operation of weather radar.
ISO 19926-1 is the first part of a multi-part series that specifies the system performance of ground-based weather radar systems measuring the atmosphere using frequencies between 2 GHz and 10 GHz. These systems are suitable for the area-wide detection of precipitation and other meteorological targets at different altitudes.
ISO 19926-1 also describes ways to verify the different aspects of system performance, including infrastructure.
ISO 19926-1 applies to linear polarization parabolic radar systems, dual-polarization, and single-polarization radars.
Note 1: ISO 19926-1 does not apply to fan-beam radars [narrow in azimuth (AZ) and broad in elevation (EL)], including marine and aeronautical surveillance radars, which are used for but are not primarily designed for, weather applications.
Note 2: ISO 19926-1 does not describe weather radar technology and its applications.
Who is ISO 19926-1- System performance and operation of weather radar for?
ISO 19926-1 on system performance and operation of weather radar is useful for-
- Radar system manufacturers
- Radar system operators
Why should you use ISO 19926-1- System performance and operation of weather radar?
Radars provide localized, highly detailed, timely, and three-dimensional sensing and observing capability that no other meteorological monitoring system can provide.
ISO 19926-1 assist in maintaining a comparable and high level of competitive weather radar systems and also provides aid for tendering authorities to take into account state of the art of system performance.
ISO 19926-1 provides provision for valid documentation on the potential and limitations of weather radar systems, thus supporting capacity building worldwide.
ISO 19926-1 advises on the general requirements for sitting, operation, maintenance, and calibration tasks to keep radar systems on a high level of data quality and availability.
ISO 19926-1 provides a description of the required range of tasks for operating and maintaining weather radar systems to let managers allocate enough financial resources and staff capacity for this purpose.
