What is ISO 20290‑1 about?
ISO 20290‑1 is the first part of the multi-series standard. ISO 20290‑1 describes procedures for determining certain properties of aggregates for use in concrete for the determination of the loose or compacted bulk density. The determination of particle density and water absorption using the hydrostatic balance method and the determination of the particle mass-per-volume and water absorption using the Pycnometer method.
Who is ISO 20290‑1 for?
ISO 20290‑1 on aggregates for concrete is useful for:
- Manufacturers of concrete
- Builders
Why should you use ISO 20290‑1?
Aggregates in any particular mix of concrete are selected for their durability, strength, workability and ability to receive finishes as they provide compressive strength and bulk to concrete. ISO 20290‑1 provides test methods for the determination of mechanical and physical properties of aggregates.
The determination of the particle mass-per-volume (density) and the water absorption of fine and coarse aggregates for concrete is explained in ISO 20290‑1 by using a pycnometer for determining the volume of the aggregate particles, while the mass is defined by weighing.
ISO 20290‑1 provides you with the test methods for the determination of the loose or compacted bulk density of dry or moist aggregates (normal or lightweight) for concrete and determination of particle density and water absorption by the Hydrostatic balance method to define its volume.
Overall, these test methods help in knowing the physical and mechanical properties of aggregates for concrete to ensure the durability and strength of concrete.
