What is ISO 20291‑2 about?
ISO 20291‑2 is the second part of the multi-series on restraint slings for air cargo. ISO 20291‑2 provides general utilization requirements recommendations and calculation methods adequate to guarantee the effectiveness and ultimate strength of tie-down/lashing arrangements performed to restrain cargo on board civil transport aircraft during flight.
ISO 20291‑2 applies to cargo tie-down/lashing arrangements using exclusively air cargo restraint slings.
Who is ISO 20291‑2 for?
ISO 20291‑2 on restraint slings for air cargo is used by:
- Cargo assembly manufacturers
- Aircraft manufacturers
- Air travel regulatory authorities
- Cargo shipping companies
Why should you use ISO 20291‑2?
Before designing and sourcing restraint slings for air cargo, you would benefit from having specification guidelines provided in ISO 20291‑2. Sling or cable assemblies made of steel wire rope are intended to be used in lieu of cargo restraint straps meeting the requirements of ISO 16049-2, where straps inherent elongation under tension appears unadvisable for a given tie-down arrangement.
ISO 20291‑2 utilization requirements and recommendations and the principles to be used in tie-down/lashing strength calculations when using air cargo restraint slings on board civil transport aircraft. ISO 20291‑1 provides requirements expressed in the applicable SI units, with approximate inch-pound units conversion between brackets for convenience in countries using that system.
