What is ISO 20329 about?
ISO 20329 specifies a test method for the determination of abrasive wear resistance of plastics. This test involves using abrasive material on a reciprocating motion on plastic. It also specifies the calculation method for specific wear rates.
In this test method, an abrasive material is attached to the circumference of a wheel. The wheel is rotated by a small angle, and the abrasive material comes in contact with the test specimen. This method is designed for consistent test results.
Who is ISO 20329 for?
ISO 20329 on abrasive wear of plastic useful for:
- Manufacturers of plastic raw materials and products
- Testing and quality personnel
Why should you use ISO 20329?
Abrasive wear occurs when a hard rough surface slides across a softer surface. Reciprocating motion is a repetitive up-and-down or back-and-forth linear motion. The reciprocating test specimen method is an abrasive wear test, based on the frictional force generated at the contact surface between the test specimen and abrasive material.
ISO 20329 abrasive wear resistance is usually evaluated by measuring wear mass per unit number of reciprocations or by specific wear rate, which is worn mass per unit load and unit sliding distance. Specific wear rate is one parameter for evaluating wear resistance in the field of tribology. Testing for the abrasive wear of plastic lets you determine if the plastic-type being tested is suitable for your manufacturing needs.
What’s changed since the last update?
