What is ISO 20474-15- Requirements for compact tool carriers about?
ISO 20474 is an International Standard that provides acceptable safety requirements for earth-moving machinery.
ISO 20474-15 is the 15th part of the series gives the safety requirements specific to compact tool carriers also specifies general safety requirements common to two or more earth-moving machine families.
The machinery concerned and the extent to which hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events are covered are indicated in ISO 20474-15.
Note 1: This document is not applicable to machines manufactured before the date of its publication.
Note 2: This standard does not necessarily provide requirements to meet all national and regional regulatory provisions, e.g. Japan does not allow object handling with earth-moving machinery.
Who is ISO 20474-15- Requirements for compact tool carriers for?
ISO 20474-15 on earth-moving machinery is useful for:
- Earth-moving machine manufacturers
- Compact tool carrier manufacturers
- Entities involved in design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of machines
- Machine operators
- Safety authorities
- Regulatory bodies
Why should you use ISO 20474-15- Requirements for compact tool carriers?
Earth-moving machinery and other heavy equipment assist in the speeding up of not only earthwork but also materials handling, demolition, and construction. Many types of heavy construction equipment are designed to serve different purposes, as a result of which they are critical for completion of construction projects. However, improper use and control failure of these machines or its components, present several risks. While compact tool carriers are intended to mechanize rather laborious tasks, it is necessary that they meet the safety and performance requirement to reduce accidents and disruptions.
ISO 20474-15 specifies the appropriate technical measures for eliminating or reducing risks arising from relevant hazards, hazardous situations or events during commissioning, operation, and maintenance.
ISO 20474-15 provides guidance on safety requirements and protective measures regarding operators controls and indicators, brake systems, visibility, warning devices and safety signs, and also recommends the tipping limit test to determine stability of the compact tool carrier.
Overall, compliance with ISO 20474-15 can ensure your compact tool carriers are safe and reliable to use, and play a positive role in the operational efficiency and functioning of earth-moving machines.
