What is ISO 20662 about?
ISO 20662 specifies the components and structure, general requirements, and subsystem functional requirements, of trailing suction hopper dredger supervisory and control systems(HD-SCS).
ISO 20662 applies only to the installed components, functions, or systems.
ISO 20662 covers the design, manufacture, and modifications.
Who is ISO 20662 for?
ISO 20662 on hopper dredger supervisory and control systems is applicable to:
- Ships and marine technology providers
- Manufacturers of parts and equipment used in marine technology
- Product design engineers
- Mechanical engineers
- Port development and maintenance authorities
Why should you use ISO 20662?
An HD-SCS is a basic system for supervising and controlling the dredging operations performed by a hopper dredger utilizing sensors, networks, computers, and technologies concerning measurement, communication, and automation.
The guidelines given in ISO 20662 about the HD-SCS system are useful to monitor the excavation process involving the monitoring and control of the suction tube, gantry, drag head, winch, swell compensator, and other equipment.
Overall, an effective HD-SCS system in compliance with ISO 20662 is essential to secure the vessel from product failures and damages while enabling the efficient removal of sediments from the seabed for seamless navigation. ISO 20662 can be particularly useful if you are involved with reclamation work.
