What is ISO 20852 about?
Textiles and clothing see constant innovations and newer fabrics are created for specific activities. As designers and manufacturers, you need tests to verify the characteristics of these materials. ISO 20852 specifies the testing method for the determination of the amount of heat transferred through clothing fabrics by the combined dry and evaporative heat emission under the simulated and specified conditions.
ISO 20852 specifies the test method for determining the amount of heat transferred through clothing fabrics by the combined dry and evaporative heat emission under simulated and specified conditions. This test method can be used for fabrics, films, coatings, foams, and leathers including multilayer assemblies used in hot environments or in activities.
Who is ISO 20852 for?
ISO 20852 on the determination of heat transfer from textile is relevant for:
- Textile manufacturers
- Textile testing laboratories
- Paint manufacturers
- The leather industry
- Product development personnel/designers
Why should you use ISO 20852?
Heat transfer is the rate of energy that transfers from a higher temperature medium to a low-temperature medium. Heat can be transferred in fabrics by conduction through air and fibres, radiation from fibre to fibre, and convection of the air within the fabric structure. Workout wear and summer clothing can be tested for heat transfer using ISO 20852.
So, ISO 20852 specifies the testing method for the determination of the amount of the heat transferred through clothing fabrics by the combined dry and evaporative heat emission simultaneously under the simulated and specified standard conditions using a sweating guarded hot plate. The test method also helps you to determine heat transfer for a variety of other materials.
