What is ISO 25197 about?
ISO 25197 specifies technical requirements for systems designed to detect a person who has gone overboard from a ship.
ISO 25197 does not cover man overboard (MOB) detection systems that require the passengers or crew to wear or carry a device to trigger an MOB event.
Who is ISO 25197 for?
ISO 25197 on systems man overboard detection is relevant to:
- Ships and marine manufacturers
- Port products manufacturers
- Design engineers for port applications
- Quality control personnel for marine applications
Why should you use ISO 25197?
The lack of standardized MOB detection system requirements has made it difficult for end users to objectively evaluate the safety and effectiveness of such systems. ISO 25197 addresses these issues by clearly defining the technical specifications for the equipment, thereby allowing manufacturers to develop systems against a common set of requirements and enabling end-users to evaluate the safety, effectiveness, performance and reliability of MOB detection systems.
Overall, ISO 25197 can help with establishing efficient and reliable security and safety measures in the marine industry. An efficient MOB detection system can ensure accurate and timely detection of risk situations, thereby increasing the survival rate of MOB events.
