What is ISO 21441 - Engine EGR cooler about?
ISO 21441 is the international standard on road vehicles that discusses heat dissipation test methods for vehicle engine EGR cooler.
ISO 21441 defines the methodology for the measurement of heat dissipation and pressure loss of liquid-cooled engine EGR coolers in internal combustion engines for road vehicles.
The principles of ISO 21441 are valid for clean and fouled EGR coolers.
Who is ISO 21441 - Engine EGR cooler for?
ISO 21441 on engine EGR cooler is useful for:
- Road vehicle designers and manufacturers
- Manufacturers of vehicle engines
Why should you use ISO 21441 - Engine EGR cooler?
Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is a technology that recirculates a portion of an engine's exhaust gas back into the intake to control the concentration of oxygen taken into the engine.
ISO 21441 provides the test methods to evaluate the following items:
EGR gas heat dissipation amount or EGR gas temperature effectiveness, EGR gas pressure loss and cooling liquid pressure loss.
The EGR cooler, test gas, cooling liquid, and test location conditions are specified in ISO 21441 providing requirements on test equipment i.e., open type and sealed type.
ISO 21441 navigates you through the test and measurement methods of the mass flow rate, temperature, and pressure that are required to calculate the EGR cooler heat dissipation and the pressure loss.
Furthermore, ISO 21441 could assist you in designing engine EGR coolers by measuring heat dissipation performance to improve a vehicle's overall performance by cooling the exhaust gas and reducing the combustion temperature, thereby preventing valve clatter and detonation. With obedience and compliance to ISO 21441, you can achieve precision in terms of product functionality.
