What is ISO 21675 - Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry about?
ISO 21675 discusses water quality with a focus on the determination of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in water.
ISO 21675 specifies a method for the determination of selected perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in non‑filtrated waters, for example, drinking water, natural water (fresh water and seawater), and wastewater containing less than 2 g/l solid particulate material (SPM) using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC‑MS/MS).
The lower application range of the method given in ISO 21675 can vary depending on the sensitivity of the equipment used and the matrix of the sample. For most compounds to which this document applies ≥0.2 ng/l as the limit of quantification can be achieved. Actual levels can depend on the blank levels realized by the individual laboratory.
Who is ISO 21675 - Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry for?
ISO 21675 on liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry is useful for:
- Government water laboratories
- Water treatment plant
- Wastewater in natural water bodies
- Geological scientist
Why should you use ISO 21675 - Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry?
Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is commonly used international abbreviation, for organic compounds with replacement of most or all hydrogen atoms by fluorine in the aliphatic chain structure. A liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry is used for separating the compounds from a specimen with precision, that needs to be analyzed.
ISO 21675 specifies a method for removing the suspended matter from the sample. It enlists all types of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also called analytes, that are extracted from the water sample by solid-phase extraction using a weak anion exchange sorbent followed by solvent elution and determination by liquid chromatography‑tandem mass spectrometry.
ISO 21675 gives you a modified list depending on the purpose for which the method is intended to use. It also tells you about the interferences, reagents, apparatus to be used for determining the Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the water sample. It gives an example of the sample preparation for a rapid testing method using online solid-phase extraction (OL-SPE) LC-MS/MS analysis without sample extraction by solid‑phase extraction.
