What is ISO 21736 about?
ISO 21736 specifies the principle, equipment, test pieces, procedures, result expression and test report of test methods for thermal shock resistance of refractories.
Note: ISO 21736 does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
Who is ISO 21736 for?
ISO 21736 on thermal shock resistance of refractories is useful for:
- Refractory material manufacturers
- Mechanical engineers
Why should you use ISO 21736?
Thermal shock resistance is the property of a material that makes it resistant to sudden and rapid temperature changes. Materials having high thermal shock resistance properties are able to withstand wide temperature variations.
Three test methods are included in ISO 21736. Each one is applicable to a different product type and their test results are not comparable. The methods are:
- Method 1: water quenching
- Method 2: compressed air quenching
- Method 3: air quenching
Refractory products undergo a wide range of applications which is why it is required to be versatile. With the help of ISO 21736, you have been given 3 methods to determine thermal shock resistance which tells you how much variation of temperature can a material withstand. This information can prove to be very crucial when it comes to the segregation of the use of these refractory products. Determination of thermal shock resistance of refractories will let you make a more informed decision regarding the capabilities of the product.
