What is ISO 21773 - Energy recovery components about?
ISO 21773 specifies methods for testing and characterizing the performance of air-to-air heat/energy exchangers when used as devices to transfer heat or heat and water vapour between two airstreams used in ventilation systems.
It also specifies methods to characterize the performance of exchangers for use in the calculation of the energy performance of buildings.
ISO 21773 is applicable to:
- Fixed-plate exchangers (also known as recuperators)
- Rotary exchangers, including heat wheels and total energy wheels (also known as regenerators)
- Heat pipe exchangers using a heat transfer medium, excluding those using mechanical pumping
NOTE - ISO 21773 does not provide a method for measuring the response of exchangers to the formation of frost.
Who is ISO 21773 - Energy recovery components for?
ISO 21773 on performance for energy recovery components is useful for:
- Construction industry
- Civil engineer
- Architect
- Manufacturer of products
- Contractor of building
- Test performers of air-to-air heat/energy exchangers
- EPB testing/regulatory authorities
Why should you use ISO 21773 - Energy recovery components?
Air-to-air heat exchangers recover heat from one airstream and transfer this heat to a second airstream. The benefits of these systems include reducing energy costs and lowering your building's carbon footprint.
ISO 21773 specifies fixed-plate exchangers devices to perform an energy-saving function, which is beneficial to you as it allows the cold pumped air to be heated with the help of exhaust heat. This, in turn, saves on the heating and ventilation engineering system as it reduces the heating load on the supply air heating.
