What is ISO 21780 about?
ISO 21780 is an international standard on-road vehicle that specifies the electrical requirements and test methods on electric and electronic components used in road vehicles that can provide safety, quality, and reliability to users.
ISO 21780 covers an electrical system operating at a nominal voltage of 48 V DC.
This includes the following:
- General requirements on 48 V DC electrical systems
- Voltage ranges
- Slow voltage transients and fluctuations (not including EMC).
Who is ISO 21780 for?
ISO 21780 on electric and electronic components in road vehicles is relevant to:
- Mechanical engineers
- Electrical engineers
- Road vehicle designers and manufacturers
- Manufacturers of electric and electronic components used in road vehicles
Why should you use ISO 21780?
The electrical system is important for starting up your vehicle as well as for keeping your vehicle running as you drive it.
ISO 21780 provides different functional statuses for supply voltage and provides test methods of supply voltage ranges for road vehicles.
The functional categories which specify the changes in functional status of the DUT as a function of the 48 V supply voltage are described in ISO 21780.
If the electrical components require a cooling system, it shall be operated and adjusted, if necessary, as described in ISO 21780 providing minimum, typical, and maximum operating loads and covering the electric behaviour at the DC terminals of all 48 V DC components.
Overall, ISO 21780 can help you in manufacturing electric and electronic devices for road vehicles by clarifying market access, thus saving time and money, and achieving user quality requirements for vehicle electrical and electronics components.
