What is ISO 21896 about?
ISO 21896 is an international standard on paper, paper pulp and recycling. ISO 21896 defines a method for measuring the decolouration capability of commercial products, produced using paper and board dyed in mass and/or printed with dye inks.
ISO 21896 determines the decolouration index to indicate the efficiency of the decolouration.
Note: ISO 21896 does not apply to paper printed with pigment inks.
Who is ISO 21896 for?
ISO 21896 on paper, paper pulp and recycling is useful for:
- Paper mills
- Graphic designing organizations
- Print publication companies
- Printing presses
- Testing laboratories/ test providers for paper products and paper
Why should you use ISO 21896?
Graphic paper products, such as newspapers, magazines, office paper, etc., are approximately one-third of the paper recycled in Europe, being about 15 million tons. They are normally recycled by using a deinking process, for the removal of printing inks.
ISO 21896 provides you with a laboratory test method for the decolouration capability of products, thus allowing assessing a dyed paper or a graphic product printed with dye inks.
With the decolouration test method given in ISO 21896, you can recycle coloured or printed paper products more effectively.
