What is ISO 21963 about?
ISO 21963 is an International Standard on ships and marine technology.
ISO 21963 provides requirements and test methods for tanks, piping and separation systems facilitating the separation of contaminated fluids of oil and water on fixed offshore marine structures and ships, where treatment is performed by separation systems that optimize oil-water separation to a concentration equal to or less than 5 ppm.
ISO 21963 applies to fixed offshore marine structures and ships operating in designated sea areas determined by the relevant authorities.
Who is ISO 21963 for?
ISO 21963 on marine environment protection is applicable for:
- Maritime industries
- Maritime Organizations
- Shipbuilding
- Shipbuilding and naval products manufacturers
- Marine environment protection authorities
Why should you use ISO 21963?
Leakage of oil due to the failure of tank and piping systems of ships could lead to a devastating impact on the environment.
ISO 21963 provides you with the requirements and test methods for tanks, piping and separation systems facilitating the separation of contaminated fluids of oil and water from marine structures and ships for better execution of safety and contamination removal procedures.
Professionals working on tanks and piping systems must be familiar with standard requirements and processes in order to avoid misinterpretation or ambiguity in contamination removal methods, and all Professionals must use the same guidelines.
Oil-in-water emulsions, oily mixtures of surface water, fuel and lubricating oil, and many other chemicals covered by regulations may spill or otherwise cause hazards on fixed offshore marine structures. As a result, these mixes must be separated to achieve an oil concentration lower than what is now required by the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution by Ships (MARPOL).
By adopting the best industry guidance under ISO 21963, you would be able to comply with national, regional and international regulations and MARPOL requirements for marine environment protection.
As a result, ISO 21963 helps in the establishment of safety criteria to protect and any potential hazards like fire or human fatality that may occur on fixed offshore marine structures and ships.
