What is ISO 21993 about?
ISO 21993 is an international standard on paper and pulp for deinking paper products. ISO 21993 specifies a basic laboratory test method for deinkability, applicable to any printed paper product, under alkaline conditions by means of single-stage flotation deinking and fatty acid-based collector chemistry.
The method defined in ISO 21993 is based on INGEDE Method 11. The method is not designed to model additional or alternative process steps, such as dispersing, post-flotation, washing and bleaching.
Who is ISO 21993 for?
ISO 21993 on paper and pulp is useful for:
- Paper industries
- Graphic designing and printing organizations
- Paper manufacturers
- Testing laboratories/ test providers for paper products and paper
Why should you use ISO 21993?
Deinking, the removal of ink from the substrate, is a crucial step in reprocessing graphic paper for recycling to a new paper. A wide variety of papers are produced entirely or partially from the deinked pulp.
ISO 21993 provides you with a method for ink detachment and ink removal from paper products to reduce the surface tension between the pulp fibre and ink.
The deinkebility test given in ISO 21993 enables you to recycle printed paper products more efficiently.
