What is ISO 22066 about?
ISO 22066 discusses water quality. ISO 22066 specifies operationally defined methods for the determination of total cyanide in various types of water such as drinking water, groundwater, surface water, wastewaters, metallurgical processing tailings reclaim solution, heap leach barren solution, mill slurry tailings filtrate and leaching solutions, with cyanide concentrations from 5 μg/l to 2 000 mg/l expressed as cyanide ions in the undiluted sample. The range of applications can be extended by reducing the sensitivity.
In this method, six suitable mass concentration ranges from 5 μg/l to 50 μg/l, from 50 μg/l to 500 μg/l, from 0,5 mg/l to 5 mg/l, from 5 mg/l to 50 mg/l, from 50 mg/l to 500 mg/l and from 500 mg/l to 2 000 mg/l are described.
Note: ISO 2080:2008, 3.105, defines free cyanide. The concentration of total cyanide as defined in ISO 2080:2008, 3.191 includes free cyanide, cyanide complexed with metals in solution as cyanide anion, but not necessarily all of the metal cyanide complexes present as determined by a specified analytical method.
Who is ISO 22066 for?
ISO 22066 on the determination of total cyanide is useful for:
- Government/regulatory body
- Water supply department
- Wastewater treatment plants
- Metallurgy factories
- Manufacturers that release waste into water
- Hydrologists
Why should you use ISO 22066?
When we use resources, it is our responsibility to ensure that we minimise damage to the environment. This applies to the wastewater that we release into water bodies. Cyanide is a toxic chemical. Long term exposure to it can cause nausea, dizziness and can be potentially fatal. Total cyanide refers to the various types of inorganic chemicals that release cyanide in water.
ISO 22066 helps you to perform the segmented flow injection test by providing you with a detailed account of the apparatus and explaining the test methods in a step-by-step process. ISO 22066 ensures that there are no discrepancies in test results by identifying interferences and providing guidelines for their elimination. The test methods described in ISO 22066 help you to determine the total cyanide concentration levels of your local water bodies.
