What is ISO 22104 about?
Microcystins released by blue-green algae are toxic not just for human beings, but also for marine life and birds that come in contact with affected water. ISO 22104 specifies a method for the quantification of twelve microcystin variants (microcystin-LR, -LA, -YR, -RR, -LY, -WR, -HtyR, -HilR, -LW, -LF, [Dha7]-microcystin-LR, and [Dha7]-microcystin-RR) in drinking water and freshwater samples between 0,05 μg/l to 1,6 μg/l.
The method for the determination of microcystins in water can be used where analytical conditions for chromatography and mass spectrometric detection have been tested and validated for each microcystin. Samples are analysed by LC-MS/MS using internal standard calibration.
Who is ISO 22104 for?
ISO 22104 on the determination of microcystins in water is useful for:
- Government bodies responsible for civic services
- Regulatory bodies that monitor water quality
- Industries that release wastewater in natural water bodies
- Geological scientists
Why should you use ISO 22104?
ISO 22104 provides a method that is designed to identify and quantify total microcystins in water by direct flow injection LC-MS/MS with electrospray ionization. Microcystins are determined quantitatively by multi-point calibration.
ISO 22104 provides a method for the quantification of twelve microcystin variants in drinking water and freshwater samples. Since microcystins are not completely eliminated by filtering water, LC-MS/MS testing helps you to understand if the water is safe for use.
