What is ISO 22127-Radiophotoluminescent glass dosimeters for dosimetry audit about?
ISO 22127 discusses the assessment method for dosimetry audit. ISO 22127 is an international standard on radiophotoluminescent glass dosimeter (RPLD) dosimetry audits to ensure the safety of patients in radiotherapy.
ISO 22127 specifies the dose assessment method when an RPLD is used for dosimetry audit in external high-energy X-ray beam radiotherapy.
ISO 22127 addresses RPLD handling, measurement method, conversion of a measured value to dose, necessary correction coefficient, and the performance requirements for RPLD systems, including the reader.
Note: The dosimetry for electron beams and X-ray beams of stereotactic radiotherapy, gamma‑ray of brachytherapy is not included in ISO 22127.
Who is ISO 22127- RPLD for dosimetry audit for?
ISO 22127 on the radiophotoluminescent glass dosimeters for dosimetry audit is useful for:
- Dosimetry auditors
- Radiologists
- Radiotherapist s
- Health and safety departments
Why should you use ISO 22127- RPLD for dosimetry audit?
A radiophotoluminescent glass dosimeter (RPLD) is a cumulative radiation dosimeter usually made of silver-activated phosphate glass. The silver atoms act as radiophotoluminescence (RPL) centers excited by ionizing radiation. The number of RPL centers excited is proportional to the absorbed dose to the RPLD.
ISO 22127 provides you with the dose assessment method, guidelines for the RPLD handling/reading procedures, evaluation of absorbed dose to water, requirements for the RPLD system.
The methods and guidelines provided by ISO 22127 assist you to improve the beam quality and ensure protection to patients from harmful radiations.
By adopting ISO 22127 the user can enhance the radiation quality and help maintain and improve standards.
