What is ISO 22181 about?
ISO 22181 discusses standards for hydraulic motors for aerospace fluid systems.
ISO 22181 specifies the general requirements for variable displacement uni-directional and bi-directional hydraulic motors, suitable for use in aircraft hydraulic systems at pressures up to 35 000 kPa (5 000 psi).
Primary and secondary function motors are covered in ISO 22181
ISO 22181 is intended to be used in conjunction with the detailed specification that is particular to each application.
ISO 22181 specifies following requirements related to hydraulic motors that you need to adhere to for design superior quality motors:
- Functional requirements
- Strength requirements
- Construction requirements
- Installation requirements
- Maintenance requirements
- Quality assurance provisions
- Test stand requirements
- Qualification procedures
- Construction requirements
Note: ISO 22181 does not cover actuators with internal rotation angle limits and low-speed motors.
Who is ISO 22181 for?
ISO 22181 on aerospace fluid systems and components is applicable for:
- Aerospace hydraulic systems, fluids, and components manufacturers
- Aerospace and defence industries
- Testing agencies involved in the inspection of fluids and components of aircraft and hydraulic motors
- Manufacturers of hydraulic motors
Why should you use ISO 22181?
The hydraulic system uses fluids under pressure to drive machinery or move mechanical components of aircraft. All aircraft make use of some hydraulically powered components. The hydraulic motors is designed to be operated by the hydraulic system as defined in the detail specification provided in ISO 22181.
ISO 22181 provides you with hydraulic motors functional requirements , which ensures that hydraulic motor meets the applicable airworthiness requirements.
The guidelines provided in ISO 22181 related to hydraulic systems help space engineers and technical decision-makers to evaluate the feasibility, reliability, and testability of the design hydraulic motors more accurately.
ISO 22181 also provides you with design requirements for hydraulic motors. Following ISO 22181 at the design stage, you can ensure that the hydraulic motor is able to run at the required constant speed over the range of loads that is specified for its operation.
All materials and processes used in the manufacture of the hydraulic motor need to be compatible with the hydraulic fluid. ISO 22181 guides you about selection of appropriate materials used for construction of motors.
