What is ISO 22190 about?
ISO 22190 discusses soil quality. ISO 22190 provides guidance on the use of chemical methods establishing the bioavailability of trace elements in soil and soil-like materials and stimulating the use of bioavailability in assessments. The methods referred to in ISO 22190 are all based on extraction.
Note: The methods themselves are not the subject of ISO 22190.
Who is ISO 22190 for?ISO 22190 on the use of extracts for assessment of the bioavailability of trace elements in soils is useful for:
- Researchers involved in soil sciences
- Analytical laboratories involved in soil sciences
- Ecologists and conservationists
- Microbiologists
Why should you use ISO 22190?
One of the consequences of the worldwide industrial revolution has been trace element contamination of soils. There are various extraction methods to determine the concentration of specific trace elements. However, we don’t have a clear idea of where to use these extraction methods.
ISO 22190 informs you about the suitability of specific extraction methods for specific biological targets and trace elements. ISO 22190 acts as a guidance document and refers you to the appropriate soil quality standards for additional information on chemical extraction methods. ISO 22190 uses the results achieved from extraction methods to determine the bioavailability of trace elements.
