What is ISO 22195-2 about?
Dyeing plays the most important part in expressing the colour of clothes. ISO 22195-2 is the second part of the ISO 22195 series on coloured textiles. ISO 22195-2 specifies a test method which determines the index ingredients of chemicals in coloured fabrics with turmeric.
Who is ISO 22195-2 for?
ISO 22195-2 on turmeric for textiles is useful for:
- The textile industry
- Textile testing / quality control laboratories
- Fashion designers and apparel manufacturers
Why should you use ISO 22195-2?
Until the invention of the synthetic dyes capable of expressing diverse colours, materials obtained from nature to dye fabric have been used. Typically, colorants were obtained from plants, or various materials were extracted from minerals or insects. When dyeing fabrics using materials derived from these natural substances, it becomes necessary to identify which substance the colorant was derived from. ISO 22195-2 is developed to identify which type of natural substance has been used.
Natural colorants usually contain several chemical constituents. Depending on the type of natural colorant, each contains a distinctive chemical. This characteristics chemical remains in the fibre dyed with natural colorants. Therefore, analysis of natural colorant fabric by chromatography can detect characteristics chemical depending on the kind of natural colorant. The use of turmeric for textiles is described in ISO 22195-2.
