What is ISO 22410 about?
ISO 22410 is an international standard that provides technical specifications to measure ion transfer resistance to characterize the protective rust layer on weathering steel.
ISO 22410 specifies a method for the electrochemical measurement of ion transfer resistance of the rust layer formed on weathering steel alloys in order to assess their protective properties against corrosion thereafter. ISO 22410 uses an electrochemical AC impedance measurement, together with harmonic analysis, to identify the ion transfer resistance, and a rust thickness measurement to characterize the stability of the protective rust layer underused environments.
Who is ISO 22410 for?
ISO 22410 on protective rust layer on weathering steel is applicable to:
- Manufacturers of steel components
- Dealers and manufacturers of steel components
- Testing labs for corrosion inspection
Why should you use ISO 22410?
Weathering steel containing Cu, Ni, P, etc., is widely used for bridges, buildings, towers and other structures because of its maintenance-free characteristics resulting from the formation of a protective and adhesive rust layer when exposed to the atmosphere. This feature makes it possible for weathering steel to be used without any surface treatment. It requires, however, several years of exposure to form the protective rust on untreated surfaces.
ISO 22410 describes a test method that provides a quantitative and non-destructive assessment for the corrosion protective layer of weathering steel structure
