What is ISO 22423- Performance testing of foil thrust bearings about?
ISO 22423 is an International Standard that discusses performance testing of foil thrust bearings. It provides best practices to ensure stability and load capacity of foil thrust bearings can be optimized.
ISO 22423 specifies the method for comparing performance evaluation results for a foil thrust bearing that supports load with the aerodynamic force generated by the rotation of a driving shaft and lubricates using air, not lubricating oil.
Who is ISO 22423- Performance testing of foil thrust bearings for?
ISO 22423 on foil bearings is useful for:
- Manufacturers of foil bearings
- High-speed and high-temperature applications
- Manufacturers of turbo machinery
- Industrial machinery manufacturers
- Aeronautics and power industry
- Fabricators and mechanical engineers
Why should you use ISO 22423- Performance testing of foil thrust bearings?
Foil bearings operate without oil because they are lubricated by a gas film. A thin top foil is supported by a corrugated bump foil in a basic foil bearing. The basic function of these components is to support a rotating shaft.
ISO 22423 explains measure to evaluate the static load capacity, bearing torque, friction coefficients and lifetime of a foil thrust bearing.
ISO 22423 permits drastic reductions in the weight, complexity, and maintenance costs of foil bearing-supported turbomachines, in comparison to their rolling bearing-supported counterparts.
By providing indications on static load capacity, friction coefficient, and lifetime of foil thrust bearings, ISO 22423 helps you manufacture foil thrust bearings that meet requirements of stability and load capacity, while avoid misalignment and power loss, for the efficient functioning of the end-use application.
