What is ISO 22426 about?
ISO 22426 is a standard that serves technical specifications for the effectiveness of cathodic protection based on coupon measurements.
ISO 22426 specifies requirements for the design, installation, positioning, sizing, use and maintenance of coupons for the assessment of the effectiveness of cathodic protection (CP) of buried and immersed metallic structures, such as pipelines, in the case of normal operation as well as AC and DC interference conditions.
ISO 22426 provides information on coupon cathodic protection which involves the application, design, monitoring, installation and commissioning of coupons.
Who is ISO 22426 for?
ISO 22426 on cathodic protection based on coupon measurements is applicable to:
- Manufacturers of pipes and other piping structures
- Dealers and importers of metal components
- Testing houses for metal components
Why should you use ISO 22426?
A coupon is a bare metal piece that is made of same of the same material as the one under test. A coupon is buried in the same electrolyte as the structure being tested and is connected through test station. Due to errors in other techniques and the complexity involved in corrosion assessment, the industry is using cathodic protection coupons as an assessment technique.
ISO 22426 provides you guidance on the assessment of CP effectiveness, application principles, design considerations, monitoring purpose, installation procedures, commissioning of coupons and more.
The guidance provided in ISO 22426 enables you to assess the effectiveness of cathodic protection based on coupon measurements. This will help you to protect your piping systems and other below-ground metallic structures from corrosion.
