What is ISO 22548 about?
ISO 22548 discusses standards for LNG fuel gas supply systems for ships. ISO 22548 specifies evaluation methods of characteristics such as pressure, flow rate, temperature, and system stability of fuel gas supply systems (FGSS), which are manufactured to use vaporized liquefied natural gas (LNG) or boil-off gas as fuel gas supply to the vessel's gas consumers.
ISO 22548 is applicable to evaluate the performance of the LNG FGSS: before delivery or after installation onboard a ship, and to assure the system characteristics are taken into account for the entire gas consumers during the ship’s gas trial or sea trial.
Who is ISO 22548 for?
ISO 22548 on LNG fuel gas supply systems (FGSS) for ships is applicable to:
- Manufacturers and installers of LNG fuel gas supply systems
- Marine fuel gas supply industries
- Shipbuilding and marine industries
- Testing agencies involved in testing performance of LNG fuel gas supply systems (FGSS)
Why should you use ISO 22548?
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted the IGF code that specifies requirements of the LNG fuel tank, LNG fuel engine, fuel gas supply system (FGSS), bunkering, control of safety system, monitoring, and fire extinguishing systems, etc. to ensure the safety of gas-fuelled ships. ISO 22548 provides you with performance test procedure for the LNG FGSS, which consists of equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, valves, piping, etc. The LNG FGSS under test is designed in accordance with the IGC and/or IGF Codes established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the safety of systems.
ISO 22548 provides you with test procedures and performance tests for LNG FGSS including safety test, performance test, unit production test, endurance test which helps to prove the endurance and stability to maintain the pressure and flow rate of the FGSS under the influence of the operation time and the different test conditions.
Obtaining ISO 22548 helps you to make suitablepreparations for LNG fuel gas supply systems (FGSS). Also, you can demonstrate the reliability of your FGSS and build trust in their use throughout the marine supply chain by adhering to ISO 22548.
