What is ISO 22605 about?
ISO 22605 specifies a method for determining the dynamic Young’s modulus of rectangular cross-section bars and circular cross-section specimens of refractories by impulse excitation of vibration at elevated temperature. The dynamic Young’s modulus is determined using the resonant frequency of the specimen in its flexural mode of vibration.
This method can also be performed at high temperatures with suitable equipment modifications and appropriate modifications to the calculations to compensate for thermal expansion.
ISO 22605 includes apparatus, test preparation, procedure, calculations, precision and reporting for determination of dynamic Young’s modulus of refractory materials.
NOTE- ISO 22605 does not address the safety issues associated with its use. It is responsibility of the users of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices.
Who is ISO 22605 for?
ISO 22605 on refractories is useful for:
- Refractory material manufacturers
- Mechanical engineers
- Metallurgy industries
- Casting and moulding industries
- Test laboratories
Why should you use ISO 22605?
Refractory products are very versatile as they have a wide range of applications. Refractory materials are useful for serving as a thermal barrier between a hot medium and the wall of a containing vessel withstanding physical stresses and preventing erosion of vessel walls due to the hot medium, protecting against corrosion, and providing thermal insulation.
ISO 22605 provides you with test method for dynamic Young’s modulus of refractory materials by impulse excitation of vibration. This test method is appropriate for determining the modulus of elasticity of refractory bodies that are homogeneous in nature. The test provides options for variations in test specimen sizes and procedure to accommodate most refractory compositions and textures. The test results may be used for refractory characterization, development and quality control purposes.
With the help of ISO 22605 you can make a more informed decision regarding the capabilities of the products. It enables you to seamlessly establish standardised processes to ensure the the optimal functioning of refractory products, by reducing risk of cracks and other damages and unsafe practices.
