What is ISO 22608 about?
ISO 22608 discusses protective clothing. ISO 22608 is an international standard that aims to assist its users in improving the quality of protective clothing. ISO 22608 specifies a gravimetric and analytical test method to measure the repellency, retention, and penetration of a known volume of liquid pesticide when applied to a protective clothing material. No external hydrostatic or mechanical pressure is applied to the test specimen during or after the application of the liquid pesticide.
The degree of contamination depends on numerous factors such as the type of exposure, application technique, and pesticide formulation. As the level of exposure can vary, ISO 22608 specifies the gravimetric and analytical test method which is designed to rate the relative performance of personal protective equipment (PPE) materials at two levels of contamination. A low level of contamination is achieved by applying 0,1 ml of liquid formulation and a prominent level by applying 0,2 ml.
Note: Gravimetric and analytical test methods do not measure the resistance to permeation or degradation. Gravimetric and analytical test methods may not be suitable for testing protective clothing materials against volatile pesticide formulations.
Who is ISO 22608 for?
ISO 22608 on protective clothing against liquid chemicals is useful for:
- Protective clothing manufacturers
- Protective clothing testers
- Fabric testing laboratories
- Fabric technologists
Why should you use ISO 22608?
The health and safety of workers involved in the mixing, loading and application of liquid pesticides can be affected by dermal exposure to liquid pesticide formulations. The use of protective clothing can assist in minimizing the danger of contact with potentially harmful pesticides.
ISO 22608 specifies two gravimetric and analytical methods that are used to measure the repellency, retention, and penetration of liquid pesticides through protective clothing materials.
The methods described in ISO 22608 helps you to identify the repellent, retention and penetration quality of PPEs, thus helping you in identifying defects and faults in PPEs.
ISO 22608 helps you to improve the quality of PPEs by highlighting the defects and thereby ensuring the safety of workers using these PPEs.
What is changed since the last update?
BS ISO 22608:2021 supersedes ISO 22608:2004. BS ISO 22608:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 22608:2004. These include:
- The thickness of the specimen holder
- Test condition
- Extraction procedure options and extraction efficiency requirement
- Inclusion of Annex A for repeatability and reliability
